What It Does
The AI Grant Writer pulls real school data from ThinkKits' Knowledge Graph — enrollment, demographics, Title I status, assessment scores, funding history — and weaves it into grant narratives. It knows the compliance requirements for each federal program and inserts the right regulatory language.
Two modes: Improve an existing draft, or Generate a complete first-draft narrative from scratch.
Supported Grant Programs
| Program | Key Focus |
|---|---|
| Title I-A | Supplement-not-supplant, schoolwide programs, evidence-based interventions |
| Title IV-A | Well-rounded education, STEM, safe/healthy schools, effective technology use |
| IDEA Part B | FAPE, LRE, IEP alignment, multi-sensory instruction, UDL |
| E-Rate | Category 1/2 services, competitive bidding, CIPA compliance |
| Title III | English learner support, language instruction, academic language development |
You can use program names like title1, title4a, idea, erate, or title3.
Two Modes
1. Improve Narrative
You have a draft. The AI strengthens it with:
- School-specific data points (enrollment, FRL%, proficiency rates, demographics)
- Compliance language and regulatory citations
- Quantitative evidence tied to the school profile
- Flagged unsupported claims
Input: Your draft text + school NCES ID + grant program.
Output: Improved narrative, list of data points used, compliance additions, unsupported claims, word count.
2. Generate Narrative
Start from scratch. The AI creates a complete first-draft with:
- Needs Assessment — Data-driven description using school data
- Proposed Solution — How materials/services address needs
- Implementation Plan — Timeline, responsible parties, PD
- Expected Outcomes — SMART goals tied to measurable improvements
- Budget Justification — Per-pupil cost analysis, cost reasonableness
- Sustainability Plan — How benefits continue beyond the grant
- Evidence Base — ESSA-aligned evidence for interventions
Input: School NCES ID + grant program + optional focus areas.
Output: Full narrative with sections, data points used, compliance citations, recommended attachments.
How to Use
- Search for a school and open its profile
- Go to Tools → Grant Writer (or AI Chat)
- Select Improve or Generate
- For Improve: paste your draft and select the grant program
- For Generate: select grant program and optional focus areas (e.g., "math manipulatives", "STEM")
- Click Run — the AI uses the school's data from the Knowledge Graph
- Copy the output into your grant application or export as DOCX

Focus areas are optional. If you omit them, the AI infers them from school data — e.g., low math proficiency → "math intervention with hands-on manipulatives"; high IEP% → "multi-sensory instructional materials for IEP students."
